Teaching is one of the best, most impactful careers in the world (I might be biased)! I was a teacher of gifted students for 18 years before switching to administration. I loved teaching, but I do remember how hard I worked to create the best lessons I could to challenge my advanced learners. I had an edge over many teachers who have gifted and high-ability students in their classrooms because I was trained in gifted education during my Master’s Program. Most teachers have never had training on meeting the needs of gifted students in their regular classroom. It’s not that teachers don’t want to challenge these students (or any students in their class, for that matter). It’s just that they don’t know how to challenge them and they don’t have a lot of time to figure it out.
Parents of gifted students are in a similar boat. They want to support their children to grow and flourish, but aren’t quite sure how to challenge them at home, often resorting to workbooks.
I’m here to help. In fact, I created this website, Teaching for Talent, to be a place where teachers and parents can learn the ins-and-outs of gifted education and talent development as well as easy, research-based strategies to challenge ALL students in their classrooms or houses, including their gifted and high-ability students. I hope you spend some time here, and I hope you find some ideas to help you ignite amazing learning experiences for your students. Reach out if I can help you.
